Yes it’s that time again. In this months edition there is a large spread given over to layouts attending the show, so if you have looked at the pictures on the site, this should add flavour and background of these wonderful layouts.

If Maglev trains interest you there is an article on these trains. Also there is a guide to loading gauges, what these are and why we have them!

Once again Mike has put together a brilliant magazine, there is a mailing list for those who’d like a copy in their inbox and a this is usually sent out at least week before we put the magazine on the website.  If you’d like to be added to the mailing list, please email queries@macclesfieldmrg.org.uk.

Macclesfield Central

Macclesfield Central is our “n gauge” layout and last week I got some pictures of the recent progress of this layout.

Some real progress. Thanks to Alek for all the hard work here, it’s looking great.

GWR Pannier tanks on Sutton Hilltop

We had a couple of GWR pannier tank engines pulling some coaches on the layout.  It’s always good to see trains running on a layout, Sutton Hilltop is out large OO layout.  I managed to get a shot of GWR Pannier 2759 flying down the express line and bypassing Sutton Hilltop altogether!

Club members can and do run their locomotives on the club layouts, Sutton Hilltop is a large tail chaser (a loop layout) in OO gauge which is perfect for testing and running in locomotives.  A large layout also allows the opportunity to put together scale length trains and see them move through the scenery.

Happy New Year

Well there it is, already the 3rd of January!  Macclesfield Model Railway Group sends best wishes for 2017 and hope that this year is a prosperous one.

Time if you wish, for resolutions. I for one, fully intend to build a layout this year and you’d think with 12 months I might even do it!

We will be busy over the next 3 months, there are a couple of layouts to finish building ahead of our 2017 exhibition (a quick reminder – 11th and the 12th March), please check out here for more details.

Wolfe Lowe visits Alsager

Earlier this week I got an email from James Bentley who had been at Alsager last weekend. James seems to be a fan of O gauge in particular and was taken with Wolfe Lowe which is one of our members layouts.

Help with Macclesfield Central

Macclesfield was once served by two stations, both very close together, one being on the site of the modern station (called Macclesfield Central) and the other station was called Macclesfield Hibel Road. These two stations, the goods yard form and the engine shed form the focus of our N Gauge layout; Macclesfield Central.

Or do they? True this is a model railway, a layout. But the layout has several spectacular buildings; some have sadly disappeared but others are recognisable today. Two such models are the gas works (Scratch built by Ken Ball) which have gone. The other is Commercial Road Mill (Arighi Bianchi’s) part of which still exists today.

Macclesfield Central looks great but it’s very much a work in progress and we need help; If you have any old pictures of the railway and it’s surrounding area. Particularly between Brook Street, Hibel Road Tunnel and the Bollington branch please share them with us. If you have any information or stories, again we are eager to hear them, please get in touch.

Hello and welcome!

Hi Welcome to Macclesfield Model Railway Groups Blog.  Here you will find articles, muses and news about our group or other related articles.

With regard to news, Purgatory Peak visited Folkestone Model Railway exhibition and although it would be fair to say we had some snags it was a resounding success with the “Peak” getting Best in show, as this was a public vote; so much the better! There are some things that the ON30 group has to fix before it is packed up again, as it is on its way to Orleans in November. On a personal note, thanks to the ON30 guys for the privilege of joining them for the weekend!  More on the Folkestone trip in Novembers newsletter.

The new “OO” layout is progressing steadily with a back scene nearly built and due to be painted.

Finally the October newsletter is out.  In this issue there is:
