Nine Spires East, British Rail Computer Reservation System (CRS) station code NSE, is in the suburbs on the edge of South London.
Set in the late-1980s, it is on a secondary line that sees regular passing passenger services, as well as some terminating/starting services into the capital during the peak hours.
Occasional freight traffic can be seen passing through and, in addition, there is a small domestic fuel terminal which is served regularly.
An engineers siding is also available for stabling locomotives and on-track plant, if required, or for the delivery of materials ahead of weekend engineering works.
The layout was originally built by Peter North, called Aerodrome Park and set in the 1930s. It was acquired in 2023 as a means of getting a layout to run an ever increasing amount of British Rail Southern Region stock from the Network South East era. The art deco features of the original layout were one of the appeals that prompted its acquisition and some of these buildings have been retained in its new form. Additionally, new structures, from kits and laser cut wood, have been added to reflect its new more urban location and the change in time period of over half-a-century.
Trackwork is Peco code 75 on the scenic section and Peco code 100 Setrack in the fiddle yards.
Control is by DCC.
