The layout is a 4mm Scale, EM gauge scale representation of Glasgow Queen St as it was in 1988. All the trackwork has been handbuilt so that we could have the required Flatbottomed rail on timber sleepers, which featured throughout the station in the 1980’s. All subsequent chairs have been glued on individually and come from the superb Colin Craig range of track components.
The layout will be DCC controlled, with all stock being super detailed – resprays in most cases and the Locos will all be sound fitted.
Phase one of the development has seen the continuing build of the station area up to the Cowlairs Tunnel portal. Phase two will see the scale build of Cowlairs incline ( well the first 12 scale feet of it ), which will incorporate the 1:45 incline in 4mm scale, plus the facing and trailing crossovers. This area will be modelled in a ‘half cutaway’ style, allowing spectators to watch and listen as the 37’s, 47’s, 26’s, HST’s and DMU’s battle with the steep gradient up towards Eastfield.
The layout will then have a 10 ft fiddle yard which will be hidded from view, giving a total layout length of approximately 36 ft, but only 3ft wide. If you have a passion for EM, want to learn about EM, love Scottish large Logo 37’s and 47’s or indeed wish to be involved in the genesis build of what will be an Exhibition layout, come along to the clubrooms and get involved!
