STOCKPORT RAIL ENGINEERING WORK

ℹ️

From 2 to 22 August, major engineering work means no trains at Stockport, Macclesfield, or Stoke-on-Trent.

– Rail replacement buses will be in operation, but journeys will take longer.

– Trains between London and Manchester will still run, taking a slightly longer route. Services to and from Manchester and Liverpool will be less frequent, and we’ll have a reduced timetable at Lichfield Trent Valley and Tamworth.

– Heading to the Community Shield at Wembley on 10 August? These changes could impact your journey – be sure to plan ahead.

That’s the ‘new’ CAD/3D printing facility installed. All we need now is to learn how to use it!

MACCLESFIELD MODEL RAILWAY GROUP

…….. would like to thank everyone who supported our show on 5th & 6th April. It was the most successful show we’ve had since moving to Tytherington School ….. 16 years ago! To those who organised it and those than volunteered their help, Tytherington School who host the event, the exhibitors who demonstrated their skills and showed us their incredidible model railways, all the traders who provide so many of the ‘essentials’ for the hobby, our catering staff, those who helped ‘spread the word’ by ‘liking’ and ‘sharing’ our posts, the ‘Jam Butty’ Bus and Ned and, of course, every single visitor …. we could not have done it without ALL OF YOU!

Thank you , somehow, doesn’t even begin to cover the gratitude we feel for all your amazing support.

AnnUal Model Railway Exhibition

What a great way to spend a Friday evening out! We’ve spent 5 hours setting up the model railway show ready for you to enjoy tomorrow (Sat 5th April) at Tytherington School (SK10 2EE.) Ned (the vintage fire appliance), ‘Tin Lizzie’ (model T Ford) and a modern fire appliance will all be there. Will you?

If transport’s a problem, we’ve got that covered too with our vintage bus service ….. and it’s free!!

Hope you can all drop in and say, “Hello”.

A VERY BUSY MONTH!

What an exceptionally busy month February has been!! Our show (April 5&6) preparations are 99% complete, ‘Cherry Willingham’ (TT 100) was the subject of frantic preparation to meet the deadline for its debut show at Fiskerton (Lincs) on Feb 22&23, Wolfe Lowe visited Kendal and Doncaster on two consecutive weekends and all of that alongside our ‘normal’ Club activities!

Look out for our next Newsletter (due Wednesday 5 March) for the complete story, the first part of our show information pack and so much more.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE ….

…. and to ‘ring in the changes’ for 2025 we’ve been trying to use the ‘new’ technology additions to our Club facilities. We’ve been experimenting with our 3D printer and have opened the ‘arduino package’ delivered to the Club just before Christmas.

Boy, have we got a lot to learn!

Watch this space for our Newsletter to read all about it. Due out on Sunday.

Do you have the skills to help us or would you like to join in the ‘learning process’? If so, please get in touch on 07761 122126.

OUR NEW 3D PRINTER

So, the Club’s 3D printer is up and running and it’s time to give it a test with something a bit bigger and more complex than a simple caricature boat!

On Monday evening we ‘loaded up’ with a 3D design for an 0n30 caboose, set everything in motion and watched for 14 hours whilst the printer did its ‘shake, rattle and roll’.

Though that would have been infinitely more interesting than watching a single episode of Emmerdale, we actually left the printer to ‘do its thing’ overnight!

I returned to the Club room on Tuesday to inspect the results which, overall, were quite impressive. Details were sharp and the quality of the print was very good ……. if you didn’t look at the roof of the caboose! We, obviously, need to do some ‘tweaking’!

We’ll make some adjustments and try again ….. it was, after all, a ‘pilot run’. I have no doubt that, in the not too distant future, there will be a new caboose added to Purgatory Peak’s roster!

I will keep you up to date.

YES!! WE’RE OFFICIALLY OPEN

Our new Club room was officially opened by the Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Sandy Livingstone, who cut the ribbon at 10.00 am on Sunday 17th November.

It was a great day attended by over 100 visitors, old friends and new, who kept us on our toes with chat, enquiries about construction methods, our work benches and 3D printing and …… well ……. everything to do with the Club and model railways in general. We were also able to share an excellent pint or two of ‘Desert Storm’ (thank you Storm Brewery, Macclesfield) or a glass of wine.

Altogether, a very successful day.

Thank you to everyone who attended for both your support and generosity.
